Washington D.C., March 21, 2024 – Astralintu Space Technologies, the first New Space company in Ecuador, and D-Orbit, a leading provider of space logistics and transportation services, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to bring the benefits of space technology to Latin America through an initiative called Empowering LATAM through Space Cloud Technologies.

The partnership will leverage D-Orbit's Fleet and Astralintu’s Equatorial Ground Station Network providing cutting-edge Space Cloud Services to address environmental and societal challenges in the region. By utilizing satellite imagery, data aggregation software, and low-latency capabilities, the initiative aims to empower local communities and governments to harness space technologies to improve the quality of life of their people.

The MOU was signed this morning at the Embassy of Ecuador in Washington D.C. by Matias Campos, CEO of Astralintu, and Renato Panesi, Chief Commercial Officer of D-Orbit, in the presence of representatives from both organizations as well as esteemed partners and advisors of Astralintu, including Clayton Mowry, President of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) as well as high-ranking representatives from the Ecuadorian and Italian governments.

Matias Campos said,

"We are thrilled to partner with D-Orbit on this groundbreaking initiative, by combining Astralintu's ground station capabilities and D-Orbit's space segment and technical expertise, we are paving the way for a sustainable space ecosystem in Latin America. This collaboration will enable us to tackle pressing issues such as disaster management, deforestation tracking, and urban planning through the power of space technology.

Renato Panesi added,

"Our aim is to work closely with Astralintu to bring space technology within reach of communities and governments across Latin America. This collaboration is a step forward towards leveraging our fleet alongside Astralintu’s Equatorial Ground Station Network to tackle real-world challenges. We welcome every opportunity to apply our technologies in support of tangible, positive change, and this collaboration represents a chance to make a meaningful difference."

Key objectives of the Empowering LATAM through Space Cloud Technologies  initiative include:

  1. Imagery Production: Utilize satellite imagery for applications such as volcano monitoring, disaster management, deforestation tracking, urban planning, and ship detection.

  2. Data Aggregation Proof of Concept: Develop software for ground-based data aggregation, leveraging D-Orbit's Engineering Model (EM) for testing.

  3. Software In-Orbit Demonstration (SW IOD): Demonstrate emergency management capabilities using the SW IOD configuration on the ground and in orbit.

Astralintu and D-Orbit will work collaboratively with partners and stakeholders to maximize the outcomes of this initiative and promote the adoption of space technologies in Latin America.
