Astralintu Tracks Historic PHOENIX1 Reentry Capsule with Equatorial Ground Station in Ecuador
Tracking of PHOENIX1 reentry capsule by Astralintu
April, 2025 – Astralintu Space Technologies successfully tracked and established contact with the PHOENIX1 reentry capsule developed by European company ATMOS Space Cargo. The tracking was conducted via Astralintu’s equatorial ground station AST-EC-GS1, located in Quito, Ecuador, following the capsule’s launch, reentry burn, and separation from SpaceX’s Falcon-9 during the Bandwagon-3 rideshare mission.
The PHOENIX1 mission marks a significant milestone in orbital reentry technology. As part of the mission, ATMOS tested a novel inflatable heat shield designed to enhance the safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of returning cargo and payloads from space. ATMOS has confirmed that mission-critical telemetry and onboard data were successfully received, validating key components of the system during early in-orbit testing.
Astralintu’s role in the mission demonstrates the strategic value of equatorial ground infrastructure for global space operations. AST-EC-GS1 is part of the company’s LatZero Link Network, a growing system of ground stations positioned near latitude zero to offer optimized tracking and communication coverage for a wide range of space missions.
This operation was made possible through collaboration with Remos Space Systems AB, who coordinated ground segment activities in support of ATMOS’ mission objectives.
The successful support of PHOENIX1 reinforces the increasing importance of international partnerships and the growing role of Latin America in advancing space exploration and access.
